The Colt Trooper Mk III is a medium-frame, double-action revolver manufactured by Colt's Manufacturing Company from 1969 to 1983. It was introduced as the premier model of a completely redesigned product line meant to lower manufacturing costs through modern production techniques while providing a robust, highly reliable firearm for law enforcement and civilians. Often referred to as the "working man's Python," it offered a more affordable, durable alternative to Colt's premium, hand-fitted Python target revolver.Core Design & Engineering J-Frame Construction: Built on a newly designed, heavy-duty "J" frame, ensuring zero parts interchangeability with older Colt models. As is in pictures shown.Transfer-Bar Safety: Feature an automatic safety mechanism preventing the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is completely pulled to the rear.Coil Springs: Upgraded from traditional flat leaf springs to corrosion-resistant stainless steel coil springs to improve reliability and break-resistance.Sintered Metal Parts: Utilized early metal injection molding technology (powdered metal pressed under high heat/pressure) for internal parts like the hammer and trigger.Clockwise Cylinder Rotation: Configured so the cylinder rotates clockwise, which differs from standard Smith & Wesson configurations.Pull-to-Release Latch: Designed with a cylinder latch that requires pulling backward to open rather than pushing forward.Specifications & Variations Available Calibers: Chambered predominantly in .357 Magnum, but also produced in .22 Long Rifle, .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire (WMR), and .38 Special.Barrel Lengths: Offered in standard 4-inch, 6-inch, and 8-inch heavy configurations featuring a solid top rib and a shroud that protects the ejection rod.Factory Finishes: Finished in high-gloss bright blue-black, bright nickel, or satin electroless nickel (known as "Coltguard").Sighting System: Equipped with a pinned serrated front blade sight and a fully adjustable rear target sight housed inside a protective frame recess.Target Furniture: Outfitted from the factory with large checkered wooden target grips, a wide target hammer, and Colt's first factory target trigger.
