This auction is for a rare German Romewerk Pistole Buchse, a pistol-carbine conversion kit that turns a pistol into a rifle (.22LR). The conversion system allows for the easy attachment of a rifle stock to a pistol, essentially creating a carbine from a single handgun. The core of the system is a specialized Romerwerk pistol. The detachable stock is what turns the handgun into a shoulder-fired rifle (Buchse). Produced by Romerwerk AG, this unusual firearm was designed in the early 1920s by Albin Gerstenberger. Albin Gerstenberger designed and patented the system for Romerwerk AG, a post-World War I factory that produced air guns and signal pistols in Zella-Mehlis, Germany. The factory was formerly a gun manufacturer. Due to its limited production and unique design, the Pistole Buchse is a niche collector's item with little known information, making surviving examples very scarce.
