The Ruger AR-556 is a semi-automatic, direct-impingement AR-15 introduced in 2014 as an affordable, entry-level alternative to Ruger's earlier, expensive piston-driven AR-556 rifles. Originally manufactured in Mayodan, North Carolina, it became immensely popular for its reliable, milspec-style build and budget-friendly $749 MSRP. AR-556 MPR (2017): The Multi-Purpose Rifle (MPR) was released as an upgraded model featuring a longer 18-inch barrel, a 15-inch free-float M-LOK handguard, and Ruger's crisp Elite 452 two-stage trigger.
