The red filter preserves the user s scotopic vision in low-light environments and improves contrast for reading red-light readable topographic maps during navigation and mission planning. A flip-open design allows the filter to be moved out of the light path instantly when white light is needed without removing or stowing the filter separately. The slip-on bezel filter provides secondary protection to the flashlight window against scratches and impact in addition to its primary function as a color filter for night vision preservation and map reading applications.
