The barrel band is correctly marked with a "U" stamp. The rifle retains its original Buffington rear sight and correct 28.5-inch barrel. The bore is in very good condition for its age, with strong, well-defined rifling. The wood and metal show typical wear consistent with a military rifle that is over 140 years old, but the rifle remains an attractive and honest example. Please note that the rifle is missing the bayonet lug and cleaning rod. Aside from these noted issues, it displays well and would make a fine addition to any U.S. military firearms collection.A solid, collector-grade Springfield Trapdoor with desirable inspection markings, original Buffington sight, and a strong bore.
