Overview

The Weatherby Vanguard was introduced in 1970 by Weatherby Inc. to offer a more affordable bolt-action rifle than their premium Mark 5, partnering with Howa Machinery of Japan to base the Vanguard on their Howa 1500 action. Initially chambered in standard, non-magnum calibers, the Vanguard allowed the average hunter to own a Weatherby-branded rifle with the company's signature quality. While it featured a different action and trigger than the Mark 5, the Vanguard has evolved significantly over the years, with various grades and a Series 2 model introducing new features like a three-position safety and two-stage trigger, maintaining Weatherby's commitment to accuracy and performance!
