Considerations & Trade-offs
- The stated 38-mile range is a maximum figure and is only achievable over water or open rural areas under optimum conditions, so real-world performance can be much shorter.
- Battery setup is flexible, but the included rechargeable packs are paired with a drop-in charger and micro USB charging cable; using 3 AA batteries instead adds another power option but requires separate batteries.
- Water resistance is noted for durable use, but the product is not described as fully waterproof, so it should still be treated as a weather-resistant radio rather than a submersible one.
- Features like NOAA weather alerts, eVox hands-free operation, and animal call alerts add utility, but they also make this a more feature-rich radio than a simple talk-only unit.
